Antique 1/2 Gallon Mason Jar . Baling Wire Glass Lid . Rustic Farmhouse Kitchen . Ball Ideal Jar . Depression Era Vintage Kitchen

You know it's going to be a good auction when the GPS takes you down a gravel road and you see a newer brick ranch followed by an aging Victorian farmhouse with beef cattle running in the bottom field. Then I stood in a gully washer of a storm and scored a few crates of old jars and lids.

This one is a large half gallon Ball IDEAL jar produced between 1910-1923 based on the stylized script. Obviously well used discount, these type of jars were often cleaned and then put away as newer canning methods and smaller jars became the standard. This is in good antique condition with all the wonky manufacture flaws...visible seams, bubbles and other imperfections that make it unique. As expected of an antique jar, there is roughness around the inner rim and the interior of the glass lid, tiny chipping known as fleas bites. The outer rim that the lid sits down on has no chips. There are other signs of age and use that mark this as an antique. It is getting harder to find the wire and glass topped jars in the larger size and this one in in great condition for its age.
