Darling 1940s discount straw boater hat in two tone cream and black Medium size

Ladies, this hat is as darling as it is dramatic. An original 1940s day hat, its in a classic little boater style with striking contrast trims. In a warm tone cream straw whose texture feels more like a fabric, a deeper crown rests on the head - or can perch above it to fit a larger size-, with a delightfully brief little brim, the underside finished in a glossy black straw, a contrast repeated in the avant-garde black plastic 'veil' cage surrounding the crown, and large, pretty black velvet bows draped on each side, giving the crown that characteristic squared off silhouette of the 40s. Marvellous. Perfect with those wide shouldered 1940s skirt suits or flirty rayon crepe frocks, its all set to perch just so for the next 1940s or WW2 re-enactment weekender, for a grand forties look that starts at discount the top!

*I am a medium hat size and this hat fits me well, with the crown large enough to come down a little onto my head for some security; I think it would fit a larger size just as well though, since it could easily just perch on top of the head and be tilted over one eye, so it is estimated to fit a Medium or Large hat size well. *

Condition: This hat is in good vintage condition. NO fade to deep colour, NO splits or separations, it holds a good shape and structure, and it is ready to wear. Small notes only; a rust spot below one bow, see pic; the lowest row of plastic coil has a small separation at the same level, see pic; the wire in edge of brim peeks out at one side, see pic, and lastly, there is a raw edge at join of crown and brim- perhaps originally covered by a hat band, see the pics. A dandy hat with small signs of life, ready to enjoy again for its great 40s look.
