This landmark 1981 record album, on the prestigious London label, is a luxe gatefold presentation that includes two discount vinyl records. The LPs cover Pavarotti's career and captures him at the height of his celebrity. He sings excerpts from Donizetti's "The Elixir of Love"; "Rigoletto" (the famous "La Donna e Mobile") and a host of other selections including sacred music by Bizet and Rossini. How great is it to hear an "Agnus Dei" by the composer of "Carmen"? This album really is quite the wonderful cornucopia. Not to give it all away -- well, we do give it all away in the track list below -- but yes, you do get to hear the master singing "O Sole Mio."

This album really is in terrific condition. The vinyl records themselves were clearly treasured and treated with great care. The dust sleeves are plain but I imagine they are the originals, and they have protected the records well all these years. The cardboard jacket has only the slightest signs of wear, and no markings anywhere. See pictures. This would make a great gift for an opera fan, a fan of Italian opera, anyone who enjoys the finer things in life. It would belong in the collection of any connoisseur -- and a newcomer to opera might well enjoy it too, because so many of the selections are famous and immediately enjoyable.
